Today I'll Guide You Through the Pitfalls of Choosing Hardware and Screw Packaging Machines

Hardware packaging machines and screw packaging machines are core production equipment in the fastener and hardware accessories industry. The former is suitable for quantitative packaging of irregular or multi-specification mixed materials such as nuts, washers, spring washers, and small hardware stamping parts, and is commonly used in furniture hardware factories, auto parts factories, and building materials hardware suppliers. The latter focuses on counting and packaging of standardized fasteners such as screws, bolts, and studs, and is widely applied in electronics factories, home appliance assembly plants, and construction engineering consumables suppliers. Choosing the wrong type of these two devices will not only waste a procurement cost of tens of thousands to over 100,000 yuan but also slow down production efficiency and increase manual rework rates. Today, I’ve summarized 4 common pitfalls to help you avoid mistakes accurately.

Pitfall 1: Focusing Only on Price While Ignoring Weighing/Counting Accuracy

Small hardware parts such as screws and nuts have low unit prices but large batches. If the counting error of a screw packaging machine exceeds 1 piece per pack, or the weighing error of a hardware packaging machine exceeds ±0.1g, it will result in insufficient accessories per pack and cause customer complaints. Many low-cost machines use ordinary photoelectric counters or inferior sensors: screw machines are prone to missing counts or duplicate counts, while hardware machines suffer from severe accuracy drift after long-term use. During procurement, be sure to conduct on-site tests: the screw packaging machine should achieve 100% counting accuracy for 100 consecutive packs, and the hardware packaging machine should have a weighing error of no more than ±0.05g for 100 consecutive packs. Meanwhile, require the manufacturer to provide the sensor brand and calibration report.

Pitfall 2: Neglecting Compatibility and Material Change Speed

Most hardware factories and screw suppliers need to produce or supply dozens of material specifications simultaneously—for example, screws ranging from M2 to M8, and hardware parts from flat washers to spring washers. Inferior packaging machines require disassembling and replacing trays and re-debugging when changing specifications, which takes 2-3 hours and seriously affects production rhythm. Prioritize equipment with a modular tray design that supports one-click storage of multiple parameter groups, with material change time controlled within 10 minutes. For screw packaging machines, confirm compatibility with fasteners of different lengths and diameters; for hardware packaging machines, verify adaptability to irregular parts and mixed material packaging needs to avoid inability to upgrade later.

Pitfall 3: Overlooking After-Sales Service and Spare Parts Supply

Packaging machines are high-frequency use equipment. Wear parts such as cutters, belts, sensors, and counting photoelectric heads need regular replacement. Many small manufacturers lack national after-sales service networks—when equipment breaks down, on-site maintenance may take over a week, directly leading to production line shutdowns. During procurement, prioritize brands with local service points and 24-hour response capabilities. Clearly specify the after-sales on-site service time limit (preferably no more than 48 hours) in the contract. Additionally, confirm whether wear parts are universal and whether prices are transparent to avoid spare parts shortages or arbitrary pricing later.

Pitfall 4: Blindly Chasing Falsely Marked High Speeds

Many manufacturers claim "60 packs per minute for screw packaging machines" or "50 packs per minute for hardware packaging machines," but in actual production, the real speed is often halved due to material characteristics (e.g., screw length, hardware shape) and packaging specifications (e.g., 100 pieces per pack vs. 500 pieces per pack). Don’t be misled by falsely marked parameters—be sure to observe the actual production speed on-site. The actual output of screw packaging machines should reach more than 80% of the marked value, and hardware packaging machines should operate continuously for 8 hours without jamming or failures to be considered qualified. Also, pay attention to equipment noise and stability to avoid material jams during high-speed operation.

Final Reminder: Both types of equipment are non-standard customized products. They need to be customized according to your own material characteristics (irregular/standard parts), packaging specifications (quantity/weight per pack), and daily production capacity requirements—do not directly purchase general-purpose models. Clarify your application scenarios first, then select equipment based on the pitfall avoidance points above to avoid wasting money.
